March 6, 2015: Isaiah 43:2

We encourage you to read this devotion three times a day.  Start in the morning and reflect upon the morning reflection question. Then in the afternoon, read it again and reflect using the noon question for reflection.  For the evening, take time to ponder how this has resonated with you in the day and reflecting using the evening question.  We offer a prayer with each devotion for you to pray or we invite you to pray what is in your heart.

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

Reflection:

Have you ever taken a water aerobics class?  One of the exercises is to walk across the pool from side to side.  Walking in water burns more calories because it requires a lot more effort and determination!  The deeper the water the harder it is.  There are many of us today who are walking through some pretty deep waters.  It’s easy to have faith when everything is going our way, but the deeper the water, the more our faith is tested.   Going through rivers of difficulty will either cause us to drown or force us to grow stronger.  If we try to save ourselves, we are more likely to drown.  If we invite God to go with us,  God promises that we will not be overcome.  Here is a prayer for you to use today as you walk.   Now this prayer may sound strange to you, but when the waters get deep we tend to panic and forget God’s ultimate wisdom and ability to lead us where we need to go.  So let’s get real with our journeys and remember that God knows things we do not and even when we don’t understand, God still walks beside us

Reflection Questions:
Morning: Where does your journey lead you today?  Are there deep waters ahead?  How can you invite God to walk alongside you?

Noon:  Have you had to take some detours already?  Did it cause you to panic and take a wrong turn?

Evening:  As you rest tonight, reflect on the journey of the day. Is it hard for you to follow God even when you don’t know where you are going?  Continue praying.

Prayer:  Dear God, help me walk willingly beside you, even though I don’t like the way we are going!
